How to Refresh Your Laundry Room
Refresh you Laundry Room and Make the Weekly Chore More Enjoyable.

One of the household chores many often dread is washing and drying load after load of laundry. Fortunately, there are a lot of things you can do to your laundry room to make your wash days a little less dreary. Here are some of them:

Invest in beautiful storage solutions

The easiest way you can make the task of doing laundry more fun is by investing in the right storage solutions.

By using multi-purpose baskets and open shelves, you can build a nice system for stashing away all your dirty clothes and towels. Keeping them from being an eyesore.

If you are someone who likes working with wood, you can check out our post How to Construct Custom Built In Shelves for some inspiration.

In addition to baskets, you may want to try a few glass containers for your detergent, bleach, fabric softener, and other cleaning products. Not only are the containers functional, but now your supplies become part of your decor.

Let more light in Your Laundry Room

While it’s true that a few more light sources won’t necessarily make the task of doing laundry easier. However,  it will surely make you feel a whole lot better.

Elle Decor’s tips on how to brighten a dark room suggests having a light wood flooring in combination with a light and matte wall. Unlike glossy walls, matte ones can reflect light in every direction without creating a glare.

You can also try adding in a few more light fixtures that can supplement the daylight that seeps into your laundry room.

Check your washing machine

As one of the most crucial and hard-working appliances in your home, it only makes sense for your washing machine to require a little TLC from time to time.

With this in mind, make it a habit to clean the filters, as well as the detergent and fabric softener dispenser at the beginning of every laundry day.

This is also a good time to check for any funky smells, which HomeServe’s guide to washing machine problems identifies as a tell-tale sign of mold and bacteria. Leaks, too, can mean damage to your hose or door seals. So take the time to inspect the inside and outside of your machine.

Should you find any issues with your machine that’s beyond your DIY capabilities, call customer service or seek professional help right away to prevent even bigger problems down the road.

Create a line and a folding space

Laundry Room Ideas

As tempting as it may be to just toss all your garments in the hot clothes dryer, some items are just not meant to be dried that way.

Instead of having clothes spread everywhere, an article by The Spruce suggests finding a spot in your laundry area where you can place a free-standing drying rack.

You may also consider having a wall-mounted retractable clothesline that you can put out of the way when not in use. Apart from a clothesline, consider having a spacious folding area that can also be used for ironing.

This lets you fold and hang the first few batches of clothes you washed, while the others are still spinning away.

Hang some art

To make your laundry day more lively and fun, consider hanging some artwork on the wall.

If you plan on painting your walls with white or other neutral colors, go for vibrant paintings.

For those of you who don’t have any artwork that brandish lively colors like green, yellow, and sky blue, you can look through our collection of Printable Wall Art featuring natural landscapes.

Steer clear of big and dark paintings and artworks that can absorb the little sunlight that streams into your space.

Plans to Freshen My Laundry Room

One of the spaces in my home  that will be freshen up this year is my laundry room.

I’m not quite sure which century is stuck in.

Even though our home was built in the 90’s, I feel like the laundry room feels more like an 80’s space. It’s very sterile.

Plans will include:

  • new paint and wall treatment
  • new flooring
  • more storage
  • create a folding area
  • create a mudroom area

Check back and see the transformation of my laundry room. Of course we will share ways you can do it on a budget.

Clearly, laundry days don’t always have to be such a bore. With the right tweaks, you can refresh your space and this task can turn into a healing and relaxing activity in no time.
