Understanding the Basics of Laser Distance Meters

The first time we saw a laster distance meter in action we were in awe.

We were doing a remodel of a kitchen for a client and the cabinet maker used this tool to accurately measure the kitchen.

No doubt, this was a tool we wanted to add to our toolbox!

Getting the hang of a laser distance meter is like unlocking a cool gadget for your next DIY adventure.

So, here’s what you need to know.

This clever tool uses a laser beam to measure distances super accurately.

Picture this – it shoots out a laser, bounces it off a target, and then figures out how far away that target is based on how fast the laser comes back.

The laser distance meter is used to easily measure the area of a coffered ceiing.

It’s like magic, but with science!

Inside, you’ve got a laser emitter, a sensor, and a display screen.

Don’t worry, understanding the numbers on that screen is simpler than it seems.

Once you get the basics down, you’re all set to make your projects a breeze – from home fixes to pro-level tasks!

Why a Laser Distance Meter

Have you ever tried to measure the height of a tall wall with a tape measure?

Woman trying to measure wall height with the tape measure falling over.

If you have, you know just how difficult it can be, as soon as you extend the tape measure, it folds and falls over.

One of my projects for this year is to add box moulding to this wall in my entryway.

However, before I can install it, I need to come up with a plan and getting exact measurements is a struggle.

My ladder isn’t tall enough to extend to the ceiling and when I start this project, I’ll need to rent a ladder or scaffolding to get it done.

The laser meter is used to easily measure the height of a wall.

But no more struggles, thanks to the Mileseey DP pro laser distance meter, a bilateral laser distance meter, meaning it emits 2 pulses of laser light from each end.

Not only can it calculate a measurement to the left, right and total measurement at the same time, but with the push of a button it can also function as a single laser.

In just a matter of seconds I have an accurate measurement for the highest point of my wall.

Then I just need a measurement of the length of the wall and I’m ready to map out my design.

And by using the Smart Life app and the bluetooth connection I was able to drop these measurements into the app and create a measured drawing.

And now I’m able to design my box moulding wall without going up and down ladders.

Isn’t this the coolest thing ever?!

Also the range of the DP 20 laser distance meter is 390 ft. much further than any tape measure.

Other Unique Features

There are a few unique features of the Mileseey DP20 Pro laser distance meter I’d like to point out.

Line Segmentation

The DP20 Pro bilateral laser distance meter stands out with a distinctive capability—it effortlessly divides a line segment into multiple equal smaller segments.

This ingenious feature streamlines the staking out process by automating the division of a measuring line into uniform sections.

Eliminating the necessity for continuous measuring, a common requirement in other bilateral laser distance meters when staking out a line.

Not only is this feature perfect for outdoor applications like installing a fence, but I can see this feature used when framing a wall too.

In addition, it’s perfect for evenly spacing art or decor along a wall in the home.

To use this feature, long press the 1/N button to enter the segmentation mode, then short press 1/N button or use the arrow buttons to set the stake out value.

As you approach each division point, the meter beeps, and the middle laser projects a light beam, helping to mark out each small segment.

Then the meter tracks and displays the length of each divided segment as you move it.

Advanced Features

The DP20 Pro bilateral laser distance meter is equipped with a built-in +/- 90° digital gravity tilt sensor.

This will allow you to measure the angle between the right-angle side and the hypotenuse in the Pythagorean theorem, allowing for the height to be measured by only measuring one segment of the hypotenuse.

Plus the DP20 displays the measured angle on the screen, making it easy to read and interpret.

I don’t know about you, but I certainly don’t remember my geometry formulas.

And with this tool, it does all the work for you!

Can you see this valuable tool in your toolbox?!

Another feature of the DP 20 laser meter is the ability for a bluetooth connection.

Download the Smart Life app and connect the laser distance meter.

While the DP 20 laser distance meter will store up to 20 groups of data, when connected to the app you can store up to 200.

And you can create measured drawings right in the app!

Battery

Most laser distance meters use old-fashioned AAA batteries, but the DP20 has a built-in lithium battery with only 2 hours charge time, it can power 20,000 measurements, ensuring a good user experience.

Practical Applications for Homeowners

A laser distance meter can be your go-to tool for a multitude of tasks and projects within your home.

Measuring Room Dimensions

It’s the perfect tool for effortlessly measuring room dimensions for that upcoming furniture rearrangement or DIY project.

Essential Safety Precautions

Never stare directly at the laser, or shoot it at others.

Direct contact with the eyes will cause damage.

Additionally do not use this product on a plane or shoot it at a plane.

In conclusion, the laser distance meter emerges as an indispensable tool, serving as a game-changer for both indoor and outdoor projects.
