Target Dollar Spot Find #1: Confetti
Target Dollar Spot finds are the best for creating DIY home decor on a budget! Who would have thought to use confetti to make a Valentine’s Day decoration? Undoubtedly it is fun to create your own Valentine’s Day decor using Target Dollar Spot finds for only a few dollars!
Don’t you just love scavenging through the Target Dollar Spot to find your next treasure? Besides being inexpensive, Target’s dollar spot has cute and creative holiday decor. We found these little jars of confetti and knew we had to find a way to use them to create some fun Valentine’s Day decor this year! Without a doubt, at $1 each jar, you can’t go wrong! We decided on 3 jars of confetti, the pink hearts, red hearts and black arrows.
Not only are these jars of confetti darling, but a little goes a long way too. We used such a small amount that we have plenty left over for other crafts or a little sparkle for a tablescape too!

We started by cutting a piece of scrap wood left over from another project into a square. Then painted on a couple coats of white paint for our background color.
To create your own confetti heart you’ll need a few supplies:
- Confetti of your choice
- Mod Podge
- Paint brush
- Heart Stencil
While the paint dried I sketched a large heart, about 8″ high on a piece of paper. Using scissors I cut out the center of the heart to create a stencil. At this time I positioned the stencil where I wanted it and secured it to the wood with a little tape.
Time to break out the confetti! Use a paint brush to evenly apply a layer of Mod Podge inside the heart stencil.
While the Mod Podge is still wet lightly scatter each of the different confetti shapes of your choice in the center of the stencil.
After you are satisfied with the amount of confetti, gently press down with your fingers to make sure they are stuck to the Mod Podge. Next tap the wood on it’s edge to shake off any loose pieces of confetti, then carefully remove the stencil.
After shaking off any loose confetti there may be a few spots to fill in with a bit more confetti. Apply a little more Mod Podge with a small paint brush and then sprinkle on a little more confetti. Gently press into place so you know they’re secure. Finally, allow it to dry completely.
Once the Mod Podge is dry and the confetti is held in place, add a layer of Mod Podge on top of the entire piece of wood to seal the confetti into place. And then the confetti won’t be going anywhere!
Target Dollar Spot Find #2: Wood Letters
The other Target Dollar Spot find are these darling wood letters! Not only was this bundle of letters only $3, but you can easily use them for two crafts! We used the letters to spell “love you”, but you could also make one that says “be mine” out of the same bag!
To make the frame for this cute Valentine’s Day decor we used the same technique from our Reversible Holiday Signs tutorial last spring. To see how we made the frame, just click here.
We simply added black paint to the wood before assembling it.
Before adding the wood letters, I positioned a piece of masking tape at the bottom edge of the wood. This gave me a nice straight edge to work with.
To attach the letters, simply add a little wood glue to the back of each letter, position, and lightly press into place. After all of the letters are adhered, remove the masking tape and allow to dry completely. Keep it lying flat while it’s drying to prevent the letters from sliding.
Isn’t it adorable?! It was super fun to make! And since the confetti is holographic, it shimmers from all angles and is sure to catch your eye anywhere you are in your home.
Thanks for stopping by! We hope you’ve been inspired to create your own Valentine’s Day decor. What else would you create using confetti and wood letters? We’d love to see your own creativity!
