Choose a Color Palette
Choosing a color palette for your Thanksgiving table is key to setting the mood for your gathering.
First, take a moment to look around your home for inspiration.
It may be a favorite throw blanket, a piece of artwork, or even the colors in your dining room can spark ideas for your table decor.
By pulling from elements you already love, you’ll create a cohesive look that flows naturally with the rest of your space.
As I was looking for inspiration for my fall table palette, I was inspired by the earthy hues in these paisley napkins.
Once you’ve chosen your main colors, build the rest of your decor around them to create a cohesive look.
Incorporate these shades into your table linens, dinnerware, and centerpiece to tie everything together.
Don’t be afraid to mix in metallic accents, like gold or copper, to add a touch of elegance and warmth.
A well-chosen color palette will set the mood and elevate your Thanksgiving table, making it feel thoughtful and inviting.
Table Linens
Table linens play a vital role in setting the tone for your Thanksgiving table and can instantly elevate your decor.
Start with a tablecloth or runner that complements your chosen color palette; a warm, neutral base can enhance the vibrant hues of your centerpiece, while a bold patterned cloth can serve as a stunning focal point.
For my table runner I simply folded an old table cloth I’ve had for years to act as my runner.
Cloth napkins add a touch of sophistication and can be tied with twine or embellished with small sprigs of herbs for a rustic charm or simply layered between the plates.
By thoughtfully selecting table linens, you’ll create a warm and inviting atmosphere that invites guests to gather and enjoy the holiday feast.
Simple Thanksgiving Centerpiece
Creating a simple Thanksgiving centerpiece can be both beautiful and easy.
For my centerpiece I’m using a rustic vase as the focal point.
Start by filling the vase with faux fall flowers in rich shades of orange.
To add texture and interest, incorporate a few pheasant feathers and pampas grass that peek out from the arrangement, bringing a touch of natural elegance.
Then surround the vase with a bounty of fresh, colorful fruit—think crisp apples, plump pears, and clusters of grapes—arranged on a rustic galvanized metal serving tray or directly on the table.
And if your Thanksgiving table is long like mine, consider adding greenery, twig orbs, pumpkins and acorns down the center of the table.
This combination of faux florals, feathers, and fresh fruit not only creates a warm and inviting centerpiece but also reflects the abundance of the season, making it the perfect centerpiece for your Thanksgiving celebration.
Thanksgiving Place Setting
Begin with a beautifully folded cloth napkin, which can be placed atop a charger or directly on the dinner plate, adding a touch of elegance to each setting.
Consider using dinnerware that complements your chosen color palette.
I love classic white plates, because of their versatility.
These elegant gold rimmed plates were found while thrifting and have become a staple when entertaining.
You might also consider using rustic earth tones, or colorful patterns that reflect the autumn season.
The charger plates I found at Dollar tree years ago when I was hosting a baby shower for my niece.
While they no longer have this pattern, it’s a great affordable source.
By carefully curating each place setting, you not only enhance the overall aesthetic of your table, but also show your guests how much you value their presence at your Thanksgiving feast.

Scatter Candles
Scattering candles along your Thanksgiving table is a simply beautiful way to create a soft and cozy glow that enhances the warmth of your gathering.
Choose from a variety of candle sizes and shapes—think pillar candles, tealights, and votives—to add visual interest and depth to your table setting.
Then consider using candle holders made of rustic materials like wood, metal, or glass to complement your theme.
As dusk settles in, the flickering flames will cast a gentle light, creating an inviting atmosphere that encourages conversation and connection with your guests.
This warm ambiance not only highlights your beautiful table decorations, but also sets the perfect backdrop for a memorable Thanksgiving feast.

Place Cards
Personalizing each place setting with a place card or small gift makes each guest feel truly special.
Consider small tokens that reflect the spirit of gratitude, such as mini pumpkins, personalized name cards, or handmade box filled with a homemade treat.
You could also include small jars of local honey or homemade jams.
Wrapping each gift in a simple ribbon or twine that ties in beautifully with your table’s color palette.
This gesture not only enhances the overall aesthetic of your table, but also creates a memorable experience, reminding your loved ones of the warmth and joy of the holiday long after they’ve left your home.

Keep place settings simple with basic dinnerware and cloth napkins, adding a small personalized touch such as handwritten name cards or sprigs of herbs.
How Do I Make a Simple Thanksgiving Centerpiece?
Creating a simple Thanksgiving centerpiece can be both affordable and beautiful.
Use natural elements and customize to your style.
Start with the tray: Choose a wooden, metal, or ceramic tray that fits the size of your table. This will act as the base of your centerpiece.
Arrange the candles: Place three candles of varying heights in the center of the tray.
If you’re concerned about open flames, use LED candles.
Add pumpkins or gourds: Surround the candles with small pumpkins or gourds.
Tuck in foliage: Arrange fall leaves, pinecones, and acorns around the pumpkins and candles.
This gives a beautiful, earthy texture to your centerpiece.
You could also scatter a few on the table around the tray.
What do you put on a Thanksgiving dinner table?
A Thanksgiving dinner table traditionally features a mix of functional items, festive decor, and serving essentials.
In addition to dinner plates for the main course, include smaller plates for salad or bread.
Also consider placing dessert spoons or forks if you’re serving pie or other sweets along with your forks, spoons and knives.
Include cloth napkins for a more formal setting, folded or placed in a decorative napkin ring.
For a more elevated look consider adding charger plates under your dinner plates.
And let’s not forget the glassware.
Other serving pieces you may want to add to your Thanksgiving table include: gravy boat, salt and pepper shakers, butter dish, bread basket, water pitcher and cranberry dish.
How Can I Decorate Cheaply for Thanksgiving?
Decorating cheaply for Thanksgiving can be both creative and beautiful!
Here are some budget-friendly ideas that use natural elements, DIY projects, and items you might already have around the house:
- Collect pinecones, acorns, and other natural elements. You can use them as vase fillers, scatter them along your table, or place them in bowl as a centerpiece.
- Gather colorful fall leaves from your yard or neighborhood. You can scatter them on the table or use them to create a simple garland by stringing them together with twine.
- Bare branches from your backyard can be used in tall vases for a minimalist, rustic look. You could even spray paint them gold or white for a more elegant touch.
- Smaller pumpkins and gourds make excellent table centerpieces or mantel decor.
- Repurpose what you have using serving trays, cake stands, or glass jars you already own as part of your centerpiece. Fill them with mini pumpkins, candles, or even fall foliage for a simple yet beautiful display.
- Use apples, pears, or oranges to create a simple fruit centerpiece. Arrange them in a bowl, tray, or basket, and add a few sprigs of greenery.
- Wrap plain candles with twine or burlap for a rustic look. You can even tie a sprig of rosemary to them for an added touch.
