Looking to give your yard a spooky makeover this season? With these Halloween DIY Outdoor Decorations, you can easily create large, creepy spider webs that will instantly transform your home into a haunted attraction.
Where are my Halloween fans?!
This past week we’ve been pulling out the Halloween decor and I was a little surprised at the number of bins of decorations I have.
You know, I liked Halloween as a kid, but I love it even more as an adult!
More than anything I enjoy decorating my home for the spooky season.
And I must say I love celebrating with our extended family for our big Halloween party!
This year I wanted to make some new DIY outdoor Halloween decorations.
Several weeks ago I started looking for some inspiration at Grandin Road, I love their Halloween decor, however most of it is too expensive for my budget.
This year these giant lighted spider webs caught my eye and I thought they’d be easy to recreate with tomato cages.
A set of three lighted spider webs on the Grandin Road site runs $159 and we were able to recreate the look for only $39.
This budget-friendly project is simple to make, perfect for attaching to trees or the front of your house, and guarantees a scary, eye-catching display.
Get ready to impress your neighbors with these easy and affordable outdoor decorations!

Shape Wire Spider Web
To create this spooky outdoor halloween decor you’ll first take a tomato cage and curl the spikes that go down in the ground with needle nose pliers.
After all three are curled, secure them together with a 4″ zip tie.
Leave it a little loose, you’ll be adding more wire through the zip tie
Next take the 16 gauge galvanized wire and thread through the zip tie.
Then take the wire and bring it down to the first hoop, loop the wire around and continue to the next hoop.
Trim the wire and wrap around the larges hoop.
Repeat with two more strands of wire, this will form six wire sections of the Halloween spider web.
Once you’re finished, tighten the zip tie

Spider Web Curly Q’s
Next cut six 8″ pieces of wire.
Fold the wire in half and attach to the largest hoop at each wire intersection with a zip tie.
Using needle nose pliers to form a Curly Q at each side of the wire.

Paint
Once you’ve shaped all of your wire spider webs, paint them black.
The easiest way we found to paint all sides of the Halloween spider web was to hang them from shepherd hooks.
Attach LED Lights
Once the paint is dried, you’ll want to light up your spider and web with LED fairy lights.
I chose solar lights so I wouldn’t need to worry about running an extension cord.
LED fairy lights are so easy to work with too.
Begin by running the light cord down through the top of the spider web and threading the wire through a small metal loop stitched to the spider.
I raided my sewing supplies and used the eye portion of a hook and eye for this.
Pull enough slack from the LED wire lights to wrap around your spider and legs.
Let your spider dangle down through the web and figure how far down you want it to hang.
Once you’ve figured this out, wrap the LED wire lights a couple of times around one of the top curly q’s.
Then begin wrapping the LED fairy lights around one of the vertical wire pieces.
When you get to a hoop section, wrap around once and continue wrapping the lights along the section until you reach the bottom hoop.
Then wrap the lights around the bottom hoop and then wrap and bring the lights all the way to the top of the spider web.
Repeat on the remaining 5 vertical sections.
When you bring the LED light strand to the top for the last time, wrap around one of the Curly Q’s a couple of times.
Halloween DIY Outdoor Decorations
Hang and Enjoy Your Lighted Halloween Spider and Web
I hung my three spider and web decorations from my maple tree and I think they are super fun and spooky outdoor Halloween decor.
It was hard to capture what they actually look like hung from the tree with my camera.
You just can’t see the details.
But I must say that I had three different neighbors pass by and they loved them!
In order for you to see the detail, I decided to hang and photograph them from my shepherd hook.
This Halloween DIY outdoor decoration is quick and easy to make and budget friendly too.
You’ve gotta love that!
We hope you found some inspiration for decorating your yard for Halloween.
