While it is common to add a wreath during the Christmas season, adding a wreath year round is the perfect way to welcome guests into your home. We would like to share today, ideas for a Door Wreath for Summer. Not only will we share how to make a simple door wreath for summer for little or no money, but we will also share other creative ideas to add a little decor to your front door.
The wreath has significant meaning for the Christmas Season. It’s circular shape represents eternity, because it has no beginning and no end. From a christian religious perspective, it represents an unending circle of life. The evergreen, most frequently used in making wreathes, symbolizes growth and everlasting life. Wreaths are symbolically placed on doors during the Christmas Season, as an invitation to let Christ in. Therefore, we feel that placing a wreath on the door year round is also an invitation to welcome friends and family into our homes.
If you read Tuesday’s post you know that with the current situation with social distancing we were determined to decorate the front porch and make a wreath for the front door for summer with out going to the store.
Clearly I would need to get creative, I rummaged through my bins of artificial greenery and flowers and pulled out pieces I thought would work with my “white summer” theme.

Supplies: Front Door Wreath for Summer
First you will need something for the base of the wreath. Luckily I had a grapevine wreath that I had picked up several months ago at the thrift store. The thrift store is a great place to find grapevine wreaths. My wreath still had on the original tag from Michaels, 🙌 score! If you don’t have a wreath form, get creative with what you have on hand. You could use a picture frame, a tray, pool noodle, the sky’s the limit. 😉
After foraging through my bins I found two ivy bushes, two white flower bunches, a geranium plant and some twigs.
Gather together a collection of greenery, and assorted flowers of varying sizes and a few twigs.
Step 1: Add Greenery to the Door Wreath for Summer
Begin by cutting apart the greenery. I like to use these small wire cutting dykes to snip them apart.
Once all the greenery is cut apart insert it into the grapevine wreath.
I used the trailing ivy pieces towards the outer edge of the of the greenery.
By inserting the stems of the greenery into the grapevine, there is no need for glue. Then when I tire of this design I can simply remove the greenery and flowers and refresh it with something new. 👍🏻

Step 2: Add Small Flowers to the Door Wreath for Summer
Cut apart the flower bushes. I also removed the leaves from the flowers as well. I wasn’t fond of the color.
Insert the flowers around the grapevine wreath. Once again I did not use glue.

Step 3: Add Large Flowers to the Door Wreath for Summer
I cut off five of the geranium stems, to add to the wreath.
I began in the center of the design area and worked my way outward adding five geranium stems.
My final step was adding twigs randomly through my design. You can see the placement of the twigs in the photo below.

How to Hang Front Door Wreath without Damaging the Door
If putting a nail in the door makes your heart race, don’t fret, there are several options to hang front door decor without causing damage to the door.
Wreath hangers are a great way to hang decor, it’s not permanent. It’s not my favorite way, they tend to move when the door is opened and closed and often scratches the surface of the door.
Another solution is to wrap a ribbon around the wreath and bring the tails to the top of the door and staple .
However, my favorite way is a Command Hook. They are durable and adhere very well to the door and yet can be removed with no damaged. Just make sure to purchase one that is meant for the outdoors.
Can you believe I was able to create this front door wreath for summer with my stash of supplies? Lesson learned, shop my house first!
