Simple fall decor trends make it easy to create a warm, cozy, collected home without completely redecorating.
Fall is one of my favorite times of year to decorate, but you don’t have to completely redecorate your home to give it that warm, cozy feeling.
This year’s fall decor trends are all about creating a home that feels inviting, collected, and comfortable, with rich warm tones, natural materials, vintage accents, cozy textiles, and plenty of texture.
And the best part?
Many of these trends can be added with a few simple swaps or by shopping your own home.
Here are 10 simple fall decor trends you’ll want try in your home this year.

Spicy Warm Tones
Orange isn’t going anywhere for fall, but this year it’s getting a little more sophisticated.
Instead of the bright pumpkin orange we often see this time of year, we’re seeing warmer, richer shades like cinnamon, burgundy, caramel, tobacco, ochre, rust, and warm brown.
Cinnamon in particular is having a moment for fall, and I have to say, I’m loving this more muted take on a traditional fall color palette.
You don’t need to go all in, either. Try bringing these warm tones into your home with:
- a few pillows or throws
- ceramic vase
- artwork (you know we love free public domain art)
- table linens
- fall flowers
- small accessories
Sometimes just a touch of a rich, warm color is all it takes to make a room feel ready for fall.
Dark Wood
Dark wood is making a comeback, and I think it’s one of those trends that can instantly make a room feel warmer and a little more collected.
Rich walnut, espresso, and deeper wood tones add depth and character without needing to change the entire room.
And you don’t have to go out and buy a new piece of furniture.
Try:
- dark wood bowl
- picture frame
- candlesrick
- small accent table
One or two pieces can bring in just the right amount of warmth.
I especially love using vintage wood pieces because they add that collected-over-time feeling we’re seeing so much of right now.
If you’re worried about dark wood making your room feel heavy, pair it with lighter fabrics, creamy colors, and plenty of natural texture to keep the overall look feeling fresh and inviting.

Collected & Layered
One of the things I’m really loving about fall decorating this year is the collected-and-layered look.
Instead of everything looking like it came from the same store or matched perfectly, rooms are feeling more personal, as if the pieces have been gathered and loved over time.
Mix old with new, layer books with baskets and pottery, and don’t be afraid to combine different styles.
This is also a great excuse to do a little fall thrifting!
Keep an eye out for vintage artwork, old wood pieces, pretty pottery, baskets, and other treasures at thrift stores and yard sales.
And remember, a little wear and a few imperfections are a good thing—
they’re what give a room character and make it feel like your home.

Natural & Organic Materials
Natural materials have a way of making a home feel instantly warmer and more grounded, which is probably why they work so beautifully for fall.
Think:
- wood
- woven baskets
- rattan
- stone
- cereamic
—anything with a little texture and an organic feel.
You can also bring the season indoors with:
- dried banches
- grasses
- foliage gathered from you yard
I love that these materials don’t necessarily scream “fall,” so you can enjoy them throughout the year and simply layer in a few seasonal touches when autumn arrives.
Even something as simple as a woven basket, a ceramic vase filled with pampas grass or branches and a pretty wood bowl can add warmth and character to a room.
Cozy Textiles
Fall is the perfect time to bring in more texture and make your rooms feel a little softer and more inviting.
Think:
- chunky throws
- woven fabric (think cozy plaids)
- quilts
- bouclé
- pillows with plenty of texture
You can even layer rugs to add another cozy element.
The best part is that you don’t have to make a big change to get the effect.
Drape a throw over a chair, add a textured pillow to the sofa, or pull out a favorite quilt for the end of the bed.
Sometimes adding a cozy throw does more to make a room feel like fall than adding another pumpkin
—and I’m perfectly happy with that!
Vintage & Antique Accents
Vintage pieces are another easy way to bring warmth and personality into your fall decorating, and I think they keep a room from feeling too “store-bought.”
Look for vintage brass candlesticks, old pottery, antique frames, vintage books, baskets, or even a thrifted piece of furniture with a little wear and character.
You may be surprised by what you already have tucked away in another room, so before heading to the store, try shopping your own home and moving a few pieces around.
And when you do want something new, a thrift store or yard sale can be the perfect place to find those one-of-a-kind treasures that make your home feel collected rather than decorated straight from a catalog.

Aged Metals
Shiny new metals are taking a backseat to finishes that look a little more warm and lived-in.
Aged brass, bronze, antique gold, and copper all bring a beautiful warmth to a room and work especially well with fall decorating.
Try adding them with:
- candlesticks
- trays
- picture frames
- lanterns
- lamps
or even hardware for a subtle touch.
Pair these warmer metals with wood and cozy textiles, and suddenly the whole room feels a little more inviting.
And here’s a little secret—
you don’t have to find the real thing to get the look.
With a little paint, you can transform something you already have into a beautiful aged brass finish.

Fall Florals
I love using flowers to bring fall into a room because they can add color and texture without making your home feel overly decorated for the season.
This year, think beyond the traditional orange-and-yellow bouquet…
try richer, softer shades like rust, burgundy, plum, dusty pink, cream, mauve, and deep green.
Mix fresh flowers with dried blooms, seed pods, branches, berries, grasses, and foliage for an arrangement that feels a little more natural and collected.
And don’t feel like you need a fancy vase—
a vintage pitcher, thrifted vase, basket, crock, or piece of pottery can make an arrangement even more interesting.
Rather than one big centerpiece, try creating a few smaller arrangements and spreading them throughout your home.
Tip: Take a walk outside and see what you can find in your own yard or neighborhood.
A few interesting branches, grasses, or bits of foliage can add beautiful seasonal texture for little or no cost.
Velvet

Velvet is one of those fabrics that instantly makes a room feel a little more cozy and luxurious, and it’s a fun way to bring some fall color into your home.
Try a velvet pillow or throw in a rich shade like rust, olive, caramel, navy, or chocolate brown.
You could even bring in a small upholstered chair or ottoman if you’re feeling a little more adventurous.
But don’t feel like you need to go out and buy a velvet sofa!
A little bit of velvet goes a long way, and just one or two soft, plush pieces can add that warm, layered feeling we’re after for fall.
Cozy Lighting
As the days get shorter, good lighting can make such a difference in how a room feels.
Instead of relying on overhead lights, try layering in table lamps, floor lamps, candles, and lanterns to create a softer, warmer glow.
Warm-toned bulbs can make a room feel instantly more inviting, and a pretty decorative lampshade can add a little personality, too.
I especially love turning on a few lamps in the evening and lighting a candle—
it just makes everything feel a little cozier.
Sometimes you don’t need to add another fall decoration at all;
simply changing the hue of your lighting can give your room that warm, autumnal feeling.
