Is cord clutter a challenge for you? As we were organizing Steph’s master bathroom, one of the most challenging areas was the drawer full of all the hair tools. It was almost overflowing with curling irons, flat irons, hair dryer and brushes. We needed a solution to tackle all of those tangled cords. While there are products you can purchase (hook and loop cable ties) to help tame cord clutter, we decided to just use what we had and create our own DIY Cord Organization, rather than trying to find them at the store.

Here’s a reminder of what Steph’s hair tool drawer looked like. Does it look familiar?

We all know that we shouldn’t wrap the power cords around the appliances. (I have been known to do this in the past. 😬) It can create an electrical short in the cords and can be a fire danger.

Our solution was to create a cable tie that we would attach to each hair tool and keep them all neat and tidy.😀

DIY Cord Organization Supplies:

  1. Hook and look tape (Velcro)
  2. Sewing machine

Step 1: Cut Hook and Loop Tape

We already had the hook and loop tape (Velcro) on hand.  Begin by cutting a piece of the hook and loop about 3 1/2″ to 4″ long.

Connect the two pieces of Velcto together by overlapping the hook side toward the loop side by about 1/4″

Step 2: Stitch Hook and Loop Tape

Stitch this overlapping section together using a zigzag stitch.

Step 3: Attach to cord

Now attach the hook and loop tape to the cord. Wrap the hook end of the Velcro around the power cord and stitch it in place with a zigzag stitch.

That’s it! Pretty simple, right?! Now all of your cords will be free of tangles.

This simple DIY Cord Organization technique will not only make your appliances last longer, but will prevent the frustration that comes with a drawer full of tangled appliances.

But wait! “How does that messy drawer look now?” you might ask.  Well, you can see how we decided to store all of these irons and many more Clever Bathroom Storage Ideas here.
