Bathroom cabinet before organization

Before organizing my bathroom cabinet, it was a cluttered mess.

My new vanity was 16″ smaller than my previous one, so it’s a real challenge to find a home for all of my supplies.

The space under the sink was just a big, open cavity with no shelves, making it nearly impossible to keep things tidy.

Bottles, cleaning supplies, and toiletries were scattered everywhere, constantly tipping over and getting lost in the chaos.

Every time I needed something, I had to dig through the mess, wasting time and causing frustration.

Without any organization, it felt like a black hole where products disappeared the moment I put them inside.

This guide will walk you through easy, budget-friendly ways to maximize storage, keep everything accessible, and create a clutter-free cabinet that works for your daily routine.

Step 1: Declutter and Take Inventory

The first step to organizing your bathroom cabinet is to declutter and take inventory.

Start by removing everything from the cabinet so you can see exactly what you have.

As you go through each item, sort them into categories: keep, toss, or donate.

Get rid of anything expired, nearly empty, or unused—those half-empty bottles and old beauty products are just taking up valuable space!

If you have duplicates or unopened items you no longer need, consider donating them.

This simple decluttering process will make organizing much easier and free up space for the essentials you actually use.

Step 2: Clean and Prep the Cabinet

With everything cleared out, it’s the perfect time to give your bathroom cabinet a fresh start.

Wipe down the shelves, drawers, and under-sink area to remove dust, spills, and product residue.

A clean surface makes a big difference in maintaining an organized space.

Consider adding shelf liners—not only do they make cleaning easier, but they also help protect the cabinet from leaks and stains.

Not to mention, they add a nice touch of style.

Taking a few extra minutes to prep your cabinet now will make it easier to keep things tidy in the long run.

Step 3: Maximize Under Sink Storage

At first, I considered building a custom shelf under each bathroom sink to create more storage, but that felt like a lot of work for a simple solution.

Clearly, I wanted something quick, easy, affordable and effective—without the hassle of measuring, cutting, and installing wood shelves.

That’s when I discovered tiered storage with sliding trays, and it was a game-changer!

The sliding trays allow me to reach items in the back without digging through my products, making under-the-sink storage both functional and effortless.

I loved this product so much, I quickly ordered another one for under the second sink.

Add hooks

One of the easiest ways to maximize bathroom cabinet storage is by utilizing the vertical space inside the cabinet.

Adding hooks to the cabinet wall is a simple solution that creates extra room for items like my flat iron, hair dryer, and mirror.

I simply screwed in cup hooks, but another option would be command hooks.

By hanging these frequently used tools, I free up valuable shelf space for other products, and it makes everything easily accessible.

No more digging through piles to find my hair tools—everything is neatly hung and within reach, which helps keep the cabinet tidy and organized.

Cabinet door storage

Don’t forget to use the inside of your cabinet door for additional storage!

Self-adhesive silicone hooks are perfect for hanging small items like dental tools, hair ties, or cleaning brushes.

They’re easy to apply and won’t damage the door, allowing you to make the most of every inch of space.

This simple solution keeps your frequently used items within reach while freeing up room on the shelves for larger products.

Step 4: Organize by Category

Make everything easier to find by organizing your bathroom cabinet by category.

Start by grouping similar items together—skincare products, haircare items, toiletries, and cleaning supplies should each have their own designated space.

Using labeled bins or clear containers helps keep things organized and visible, so you can quickly grab what you need.

Store everyday essentials like toothpaste, soap, and your go-to skincare products within easy reach at the front of the cabinet, while less frequently used items can go towards the back or on higher shelves.

This simple system will save you time and frustration every time you open your cabinet!

Step 5: Drawer Organization

Here’s a quick peek at what a couple of my drawers looked like before adding any organizers.

At first, I tried using adjustable drawer dividers in my bathroom drawers, but I quickly learned they weren’t the best option.

They didn’t stay in place, and items would shift around, making it difficult to find what I needed.

Adjustable drawer dividers do not stay in position and make keeping the drawer organized.

My bathroom drawers are quite small—only 9 inches wide and fairly shallow due to the plumbing pipes behind them.

While there are plenty of drawer organizer options out there, I wanted to make sure I used every inch of space efficiently.

The standard dividers just didn’t cut it for such a small and awkward space, so I decided to make my own custom drawer dividers.

This allowed me to maximize every corner and keep everything organized without wasting any space. Now, even with the limited room, I can store my essentials neatly and accessibly.

Simple DIY drawer dividers

First, I measured the depth of each drawer.

Then I cut 3 pieces 1/4″ x 3″ project wood to the depth of my drawers.

To hold the wood dividers in place I purchased inside corner braces.

Next I decided on the placement of my dividers and marked the front and the back of the drawer with a pencil.

And to make sure they were straight, I then took my speed square and straightened up the lines.

Pencil lines marked on the bathroom cabinet drawer for bracket placements to organize the drawers.

Next align the braces with the placement line, mark each hole with a pencil and first drill a pilot hole.

Then secure the braces into place with screws.

Finally slide each board into the brackets.

I chose not to secure the dividers with screws, gravity will keep them in position.

Then when it’s time to clean the drawers, I can simply remove the dividers and wipe the drawer.

My DIY drawer dividers were the perfect solution for my small drawers.

They are simple to install, took up minimal space, and keep everything neatly separated.

Now, my drawers are organized and functional, with each item in its designated spot, making it so much easier to keep track of everything.

Other drawer organizer options

If DIY drawer dividers aren’t your thing, there are plenty of other great options for organizing your bathroom drawers.

Consider using stackable trays or drawer bins that help you organize smaller items while still allowing for easy access.

Or try using clear acrylic organizers so you can see exactly what’s inside, making it easier to find what you need without digging.

For one of my drawers I was able to use containers I already had on hand.

Next, I like to keep my makeup in a zipper bag.

And finally at the front of the drawer are my contacts and lens solution.

Step 6: Maintain Your Organized Cabinet

Maintaining an organized bathroom cabinet doesn’t have to be difficult—it’s all about staying consistent.

Once you have a good organizing system in place for your drawers and under sink storage, a quick declutter once a month will ensure your bathroom cabinets stay organized.

Stick to your organization system, putting things back in their designated spots after each use.

A little upkeep goes a long way in preventing things from getting out of control again.

With just a few minutes of attention every month, your bathroom cabinet will stay tidy, functional, and stress-free.

Once you have your bathroom neat and organized you may want to deep clean your towels.

Did you know that detergent and fabric softener can build up in your towels and make then stiff, less absorbent and musty smelling?

Bathroom Overstock Storage

I love saving money by buying toiletries in bulk, but storing them in my bathroom can be a challenge due to limited space.

Instead of cramming extra products into my already crowded cabinet, I created a dedicated storage space in my linen closet.

I use clear, labeled containers to organize everything, making it easy to grab what I need without sifting through clutter.

This solution not only helps me keep my bathroom organized, but it also allows me to take advantage of bulk buying without sacrificing storage space.
