DIY Topiary Tree Supplies

To make this DIY topiary tree, you’ll need just a few simple supplies:

Supplies to make a DIY topiary: small greenery plant, brown floral tape, tree branch, styrofoam and a clay pot.

You’ll also need a few tools:

I picked up all my supplies at Hobby Lobby, and I have to say—I absolutely love this greenery!

I’ve used it throughout my home in various containers, and it works beautifully for a realistic topiary tree as well.

And to save yourself a little money, buy the greenery on sale.

Forming the Topiary on the Branch

To create the base of your DIY topiary tree, start with a small tree branch—I used one from my lilac bush, but any fairly straight branch will work.

Use pruning shears to trim off any twigs, leaving a clean, sturdy stem.

Next, cut apart your greenery into six pieces to create the topiary shape.

Take a piece of floral tape about 12″ in length and gently stretch it to activate the adhesive—it will stick to itself when wrapped.

Begin at the top of the branch, wrapping the floral tape around it, then attach one piece of greenery and secure it by wrapping more tape around the stem.

Continue adding greenery pieces one at a time, wrapping as you go, until your topiary tree is full and lush.

Adjust the placement as needed to create a natural, rounded shape!

Preparing the Pot with Floral Foam and Moss

To prepare the base for your DIY topiary tree, start by placing a piece of styrofoam inside your pot—I used some clay pots I had on hand, but any pot will work!

Once the styrofoam is in place, add a layer of moss on top to conceal it and give the arrangement a more natural, polished look.

Next, create an opening through the moss and carefully push your branch into the styrofoam, ensuring it stands upright and feels secure.

Once the topiary tree is in place, take a moment to adjust and shape the greenery until you’re happy with the fullness and look.

This quick and easy project is the perfect way to welcome spring into your home.

It’s so realistic and high-end, I loved it so much that I made three!

Another fun variation is using a greenery orb instead—just pop it onto a branch in a pot for an effortlessly chic look!

Styling Your DIY Topiary Tree

When it came to styling my DIY topiary tree, I wanted to bring a fresh touch of spring into my home.

While I usually decorate my mantel with candlesticks, I loved the look of grouped topiaries for a more natural, seasonal feel.

I also tried styling one on my china hutch, and it was the perfect addition—so simple, yet so elegant!
