This simple to make valentine wreath comes together in under an hour and adds a pop of color and sparkle for Valentine’s Day.

I was looking for a quick and easy way to add a pop of color and sparkle to my front door for Valentine’s Day when inspiration struck!

This simple DIY Valentine wreath is not only beautiful, but can be made in under an hour—perfect for busy days when you’re feeling a little crafty.

We teamed up with Totally Dazzled for this project, but all the thoughts and ideas are my own.

Their rhinestone products add a touch of glam to seasonal decor and we absolutely love them.

In fact we’ve used them to embellish a lampshade, add a touch of elegance to a tablescape and embellished Christmas ornaments.

Whether you’re sprucing up your entryway or creating a thoughtful gift, this wreath is sure to make a statement!

To create this beautiful DIY Valentine wreath, you’ll need just a few simple supplies.

Supplies for DIY Valentine wreath: rhinestone stencils, rhinestones, wood heart, glue, magic brush and picker tool.

You’ll also need a wreath base to tie everything together and a pretty ribbon to finish it off.

I decided to use my Norfolk pine wreath from Christmas, but a grapevine, pampas grass, or coffee filter wreath would also be a great option.

Paint heart

The first step is to paint the large wooden heart in your desired color.

I chose a bright fuchsia color, which will compliment a wool ball garland I plan to hang with my valentine wreath.

Rhinestone stencil

Creating a design with the rhinestone stencil is simple and fun!

Start by placing the stencil on your work surface, ensuring it’s flat and secure.

Pour a generous amount of rhinestones onto the stencil, then use the Totally Dazzled magic brush in a circular motion to glide the rhinestones into place, filling the stencil design.

Once most of the design is filled in, use the brush to gently pull any loose rhinestones away from the stencil.

Rhinestones are swirled around in a circular motion to move them into the valentine stencil.

For any remaining empty spots, use a wax picker tool to place rhinestones precisely where they’re needed, ensuring the design is fully filled.

Transfer rhinestones to surface

Once your rhinestone design is complete, it’s time to transfer it to the wooden heart.

Start by placing the transfer sheet, which is included with the stencil, over the rhinestone design.

Use the magic brush to gently rub over the transfer sheet, pressing the rhinestones onto the sheet to ensure they adhere.

Once you’ve gone over the design, carefully peel the transfer sheet away from the stencil.

The rhinestone design should now be securely stuck to the transfer sheet, ready to be applied to your project!

Heat set rhinestones design – option 1

To make sure your rhinestone design stays securely in place, you’ll need to heat set it to the project surface.

Start by covering the rhinestone design and transfer sheet with the included Teflon sheet.

Next, use a hot iron to press down on the surface—be sure not to slide the iron, as this could cause the rhinestones to shift out of place.

If you have a heat press machine, that’s an excellent alternative; we set ours to 300° and pressed for 40 seconds.

Once the design has cooled, gently peel back the transfer paper to reveal the stunning rhinestone design that’s now perfectly adhered to your project!

You may find like we did that a few of the rhinestones pulled up as we removed the transfer paper.

It’s a simple fix with a little glue and the wax picker tool.

Apply a small dot of glue to the area and then pick up a rhinestone with the picker tool and press into place.

Glue rhinestone design – option 2

For surfaces that cannot be heat set, there’s another simple way to transfer your rhinestone design.

Start by placing the stencil directly on your project surface.

Use a pencil to lightly mark the location for each rhinestone through the stencil, ensuring precise placement.

Once you’ve marked all the spots, remove the stencil and apply a small dot of B7000 glue to each marked location.

Then, using the wax picker tool, carefully place a rhinestone on each glue dot, pressing gently to secure them in place.

Attach embellished heart to wreath

Finally to create your valentine wreath, attach a cord to the back of the heart with a staple gun.

Then tie the cord around the top of your wreath and embellish with a pretty bow.

More ideas using rhinestone stencils

We had so much fun creating the Valentine wreath that we couldn’t resist using the rhinestone stencils on a few more projects!

First we decided to make a cute Valentine’s sweatshirt, adding just the right amount of sparkle with rhinestones.

Then, we took it a step further and created a sparkly card that’s perfect for spreading a little love.

These stencils are so versatile, and adding rhinestones instantly elevates any project with a touch of glam!
